I spent twenty years as a fashion photographer learning to read an image. Bodies, the relationship between skin and negative space. Colour as information. Silhouette as structure. That process becomes the way you see. When I moved to painting I brought that eye with me. Not as a style or a reference but as a reflex - immediate, analytical, relentless. But where photography fixes a moment, painting accumulates it. Every decision stays in the work. The eye that once interrogated a studio now interrogates a surface. I work on the canvas physically, moving, marking with charcoal and body weight. The separation between maker and image collapses. The composition builds around my own presence the way it once built around someone else's. That inversion is not incidental. It's the whole question. Forms emerge from abstraction. Colour arrives before the reasoning does, drawn from a chromatic memory, the palette of fabric and skin, of a world almost entirely feminine in its energy and its intelligence. Those twenty years didn't just train the eye. They left a residue. It shows up in the paintings. I'm not interested in expression for its own sake. I'm interested in what happens when a practice built on control meets a medium that refuses it. The friction between those two things - the interrogating eye and the accumulating surface - is where the work lives.
